The All India law Entrance Test, or AILET, is a national-level test administered by the NLUD for admission to the university's undergraduate and graduate legal programs. AILET Eligibility Criteria 2026

NLU Delhi is accepting AILET 2026 applications for admission to both BALLB and LLM programs through the official portal at https://nationallawuniversitydelhi.in/. Before completing the AILET 2026 application form, students should review the NLUD-specified qualifying conditions. Only students who meet the AILET  eligibility criteria will be permitted to take the admission test. The AILET  minimum eligibility criteria are as follows:

AILET Educational Qualifications

  • Candidates for the B.A.LL.B (Hons.) course must have completed the 10+2 exam with at least 50% of their total points.
  • Candidates from the SC/ST category must have at least 45% aggregate marks in their class 12.
  • Candidates in the Foreign Nationals Category must have scored 65% or higher in the Higher Secondary School Examination of the (10+2) system or an equivalent examination.
  • Candidates who completed and passed their class 12 exams during the April/May 2025 session are also eligible to apply for the AILET 2026 exam.

AILET Age Limit

There is no higher age limit for taking the AILET 2025 exam. Candidates can take the exam as long as they match the eligibility requirements.

AILET Eligibility for B.A.LL.B.(Hons.)

  • All candidates, other than those applying under the Foreign Nationals category, should appear for the All India Law Entrance Test (AILET), and selection shall be solely on that basis. The Foreign National and OCI/PIO candidates are also required to apply online on the same portal.
  • Candidates have passed the Higher Secondary School Examination (10+2) system or an equivalent examination thereto, securing in the aggregate not less than 45% of the total marks (42% in case of OBCs and 40% for SC/ST/Persons with Disability).  The Eligibility condition for admission of students under the Foreign Nationals Category shall be 65% marks in the Higher Secondary School Examination of the (10+2) system or an equivalent examination.
  • Candidates appearing/awaiting results of the qualifying examination can also apply and appear in the Entrance Test. However, the eligibility of such candidates shall have to be obtained by the cut-off date, which will be notified along with the Notification of Entrance Test result and in case such a candidate is placed in a compartment in the year of the admission, they would be treated as ineligible.
  • The admission of foreign nationals shall be made based on satisfying the prescribed academic qualifications. The candidates who possess citizenship of a country other than India and hold a valid passport shall be eligible to apply under this category. They are exempt from taking the admission test. The other regulations regarding the eligibility for admission will be the same as applicable to the other candidates.
  • The candidates belonging to Overseas Citizen of India (OCI)/Person of Indian Origin (PIO) category may apply under the OCI/PIO category as well as under the category of Indian students separately (They have to submit two different application forms i.e. one for India National and another for OCI/PIO category). In case the OCI/PIO candidates apply under the category of Indian National, they have to appear in the All Indian Law Entrance Test along with other Indian students.
  • The merit of the Foreign National and OCI/PIO Category will be drawn on the basis of the percentage of marks in the qualifying exam.
  • The unfilled seats under Foreign National and OCI/PIO will be carried over to the General Category and filled on AILET Merit.

AILET Eligibility Criteria for LL.M

  • All candidates, other than those applying under the Foreign Nationals category, should appear for the All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) and selection shall be solely on that basis. The Foreign National and OCI/PIO Candidates are also required to apply online on the same portal.
  • To be eligible to appear for admission to the one year- LL.M. Programme, a candidate should have passed the LL.B or an equivalent degree from a recognised University with not less than 50% marks in aggregate (45% in case of SC/ST/Persons with Disability category).
  • Candidates appearing/awaiting results of the qualifying examination can also apply and appear in the Entrance Test. However, the eligibility of such candidates shall have to be obtained by the cut-off date, which will be notified along with the Notification of Entrance Test result, and in case such a candidate is placed in a compartment in the year of admission would be treated as ineligible.

  • The candidates belonging to Overseas Citizen of India (OCI)/Person of Indian Origin (PIO) category may apply under the OCI/PIO category as well as under the category of Indian students separately (They have to submit two different application forms i.e. one for the India National and another for the OCI/PIO category). In case the OCI/PIO candidates apply under the category of Indian National, they have to appear in the All Indian Law Entrance Test along with other Indian students

 

AILET Eligibility Criteria 2026 FAQs

Candidates currently in class 12 are also eligible to apply for the AILET Exam. Candidates from the SC/ST category must have at least 45% aggregate marks in their class 12.

If you fall into the general category, you must have obtained at least 45% in class 12 or similar tests, according to the AILET 2026 eligibility criteria. If you are from the SC/ST/PwD category, you must have scored at least 40% in the qualifying exam.
