The entrance exam is primarily developed for students seeking admission into five-year undergraduate LLB programs after 12th grade and one-year postgraduate LLM programs following graduation. CLAT Eligibility for LLB Courses (UG)

CLAT eligibility for undergraduate courses are below -

  • Candidates must pass Class 12 with a minimum aggregate of 45% (applicable for candidates from the General/Other Backwards Class (OBC)/Person with Disability (PwD)/Non-Resident Indian (NRI)/Person of Indian Origin (PIO)/Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) categories).
  • Students must complete Class 12 with a minimum aggregate of 40% (applicable for SC/ST students).
  • Candidates preparing for their Class 12 board exams in March/April are also eligible to apply for the CLAT 2026 exam. However, such candidates must provide confirmation of completing the Class 12 or equivalent exam at the time of admission. Candidates who are unable to show the evidence will forfeit their opportunity to admission through the CLAT exam.

CLAT Age

India's universities and exam administrations establish upper and lower age limits for course admission. However, in order to accommodate a large number of law students, the BCI capped the age restriction for admission to the five-year LLB degree. As a result, the CLAT consortium now follows the same CLAT eligibility criteria.

  • There is no upper age limit for the CLAT 2026 exam.
  • This means that applicants of any age can apply for the legal entrance exam.

CLAT Eligibility for LLM Courses (PG)

Postgraduate (PG) law program in which candidates can secure admission through the CLAT exam is LLM (Master of Laws). Basic criteria that candidates need to fulfill to meet CLAT eligibility criteria for the LLM course are mentioned below:

  • Candidates belonging to the General/ OBC/ PwD/ NRI/ PIO/ OCI category should possess an LLB or equivalent degree with a minimum of 50 per cent aggregate.
  • Candidates belonging to the SC/ ST category should possess an LLB or equivalent degree with a minimum of 45 per cent aggregate.
  • Candidates appearing for the final year examination of their qualifying degree are also eligible to apply for CLAT
