The Common University Entrance Test (CUET UG) is held for several days and sessions for the same subjects. To solve this problem among aspirants NTA uses a scientifically approved normalization process. CUET Normalization ensures that every candidate is evaluated on a common and fair scale regardless of the number of sessions. CUET Normalization 2026
The National Testing Agency (NTA) will use a normalization process to compare scores fairly for different exam shifts of CUET UG. This process is termed equipercentile method which converts raw marks into percentile scores by adjusting differences in difficulty between sessions. This ensures that all exam aspirants are evaluated on the same scale. A higher CUET percentile means better performance as compared to other candidates in the same subject. This process helps CUET colleges select students more fairly.
CUET Marks vs Percentile
The CUET UG results will be shown as percentiles. Aspirants raw scores are used to calculate both their marks and percentile in the CUET UG exam. How is CUET Normalized Marks are Calculated?
Candidates can use the steps given below to calculate the CUET Normalized marks. The calculation process is carried out in 4 simple steps.
Step 1: Calculate Percentiles in Each Shift Using Raw Marks
First, students’ raw marks are compared only with students of the same shift. This process is done separately for each shift.
How CUET percentile is calculated:
- Suppose 100 students appeared in a shift.
- A student scored 87% marks.
- If 80 out of 100 students scored less than or equal to 87%
Formula used= 80 / 100 = 0.8
Note– The percentile value will Always lies between 0 and 1 and scores are rounded off to decimals
Step 2: Arrange Percentiles of All Shifts in Descending Order
Now combine the CUET percentile from all shifts of same subject and arrange it form highest to lowest
For Example: There are six students who have appeared in two shifts
- Shift-1: Stu2, Stu4, Stu6
- Shift-2: Stu1, Stu3, Stu5
After calculating percentiles, they will be arranged as:
PStu5 > PStu2 > PStu1 > PStu4 > PStu6 > PStu3
Note: At this stage the raw marks are noted only for the shift in which the student appeared.

Step 3: Calculate Missing Marks Using Linear Interpolation
If a student has appeared in only one shift and the marks for the other shifts are missing. These missing marks are calculated using linear interpolation. Interpolation is a method to estimate missing marks based on percentile position. After interpolation every student gets marks for both shifts.

Step 4: Calculate Final Normalized Marks on a Common Scale
Finally the normalized marks are calculated by taking the average of raw marks and interpolated marks.
Formula Used: Normalized Marks = (Raw Marks + Interpolated Marks) / 2
