Compartment Rules for Class 10 CBSE Board
The CBSE Class 10 compartment exam is for those students who have failed in one or two subjects in the main board exam. CBSE board gives students up to three attempts to clear the compartment exam in July/August, March/April and July/August (in the next year). If a student is not able to clear the failed subject within these attempts he must reappear for all subjects in the next main board exam. The syllabus for the exam remains the same as the main exam. In most cases the students need to appear only for the theory exam. In case a student has failed in practicals or internal assessment then only both theory and practical exams must be retaken.

Eligibility Criteria for CBSE Class 10 Compartment Exam
A student can appear for the Class 10 compartment exam of CBSE only if certain conditions are met. The student must have appeared in the CBSE Class 10 board examination and should be declared as failed in only one subject. Those Students who have failed in more than one subject are not eligible for the CBSE compartment exam. It is also important that these students complete and submit the compartment exam application form within the given deadline to be considered eligible.
Compartment Rules for CBSE Class 12 Exam
Those students who fail in one subject appear for the Class 12th compartment exam are eligible to reappear for the exam. This rule applies to all the streams whether it is Science, Commerce, and Arts. The exam follows the same syllabus and marking scheme as the main board exam and the updated marks are reflected in the final mark sheet.

Eligibility Criteria for CBSE Class 12 Compartment Exam
Students are allowed to appear for the compartment exam of Class 12 only if they meet certain conditions. Such candidates must have appeared in the CBSE Class 12 board examination and should have failed only in one subject. It is also necessary to submit the application for the compartment exam. Students who have fail in two or more subjects are marked as Essential Repeat candidates and have to appear again in the next full board exam.
